In January 2005, Alan Kerins travelled to the town of Mongu in western Zambia with nothing more in mind than a short three month stint as a voluntary physiotherapist in a local centre for physically disabled children. What he saw triggered a fundraising campaign that has since helped change lives and futures forever.
When Alan first travelled to the Western Province of Zambia in January
2005 he did so in order spend three months working as a voluntary
physiotherapist in the Cheshire Home for Physically Disabled Children.
Whether it
is the teaching of modern, effective and sustainable farming techniques or the
teaching of reading and writing to local children, education is central to the
goals of the Alan Kerins African Projects.
At the peak
of the drought afflicting the Western Province of Zambia in 2004 and 2005 funds
provided by the Alan Kerins African Projects fed over 700 families in the
region.
